Placed order with high expectations of skill set for non compatible wage of $10/hr. See the emailed job description below. Spoke through with Sean that it would be hard to find a skilled warehouse person, with strong MS Office skills (Word & Excel) strong overall PC skills, prior forklift certification. ability to lift 100lbs, great customer service skills, great quality inspection skills (with the ability to do math and geometry) strong typing skills, Valid DL, HS or GED or above, all for $10/hr. having the flexibility to work 30-40 hours a week on a TTH basis. Explained the challenges and described a strong candidate who was looking for more money but immediately available - asked Sean if he could pay $12-$15 for the right person coming in able to step in quickly? He said he would prefer to see what he can get for $10. He advised he would consider more of an entry level candidate with the physical capabilities and the computer abilities and he could train on the rest. He also thought he could work the person full time 40 hours a week, "pretty quickly."

Positions is open b/c long term emp is retiring. That person was strong warehouser but struggled a bit with the computer so that is why he is trying to bring in someone who has stronger computer abilities. Looking for someone to start around the end of April. TTH. Location is 1 block down from the Benson Stone Store and they are separate business entities. Sean asked what sort of skill testing we could do - would like to see Word/Excel/Typing/ some clerical skills, some sort of number matching (like for pick list #'s) and wondering what we might have in the way of perceptive testing of geometry skills or perceptual reasoning skills for people to do some quality work (Can they envision what it is supposed to look like? So if something was bent the wrong way, would they know by looking at it?)
"I understand the pay is on the low end and the job description reads like I want a Warehouse Manager and there is certainly that potential there over time. But I am also looking for someone who can learn, and I can train, and someone who retains. Starting out will pick lists for orders, pull products from 3 different warehouses, palletize the product and get them ready for shipment, help the in house carpenter to unpack and rework some wood tables we have as a line, again we will train on this. Even if someone had some high school basic training on Word or Excel or had taken a class - it would just be nice if they had some of that skill. I can train someone how to drive a forklift, easier than how to be computer and software literate. Over time we will show them how to get fright quotes, write up bills of lading, pull freight orders, and handle FedEx labels and shipments. They will work 30% of time on forklift, 40% on general labor type tasks, and 30% paper and computer work. Would take an entry level warehouse worker if pc skills are there and train them on the rest."

Benson Distributing is home of the Saffire Grill and Smoker. Saffire was founded in 2008. This year we have released an entirely new lineup of Saffire ceramic grills. We are continuing to develop new products and expand our market.
Job Purpose
¬¬Manage product flow through distribution warehouse.
Look after inventory
General grounds maintenance and upkeep
Duties
Handle shipping and receiving of product (both freight and FedEx shipments).
Make sure product is shipped on time with proper packaging.
Take inventory and track stocking locations.
Provide various reports including status of order fulfilment.
Perform Quality control checks on some inventory.
Perform general maintenance on inventory when necessary.
Look after basic facility maintenance and upkeep.
Become thoroughly knowledgeable of the company’s products.
Skills & Qualifications
Experience in at least one of these: maintenance, building or assembly.
Excellent time management skills, Fast pace worker, work well alone and in groups, Performs well under pressure, Attention to detail, Must be able to lift at least 100 Lbs., Good technical skills, Fluent PC skills including all Microsoft Office program, Moderate to fluent typing speed, Some prior Inventory management experience required, Driver’s license required, Fork lift driving experience preferred.
Education Requirements
High School Degree or above.
Must have had formal training in MS Word and MS Excel.
