If you’re looking to get ahead in your career but aren’t sure what you can do, and don’t have a lot of time to undergo in-depth training to learn entirely different skills, it’s time to consider getting certified.

Certifications are a great way to brush up on your skills, learn something new and become an even more valuable asset to your team, whether you’re a brand-new employee or someone who’s leading their own team. The best part? It’s a much faster way to help advance your career, make your resume more impressive and it can help you earn more money at the same time!

At FurstStaffing , we know which ones our client companies are looking for when they’re considering new job candidates and these types are the ones they’re most impressed by.

Project management certifications

Project Management Certification: Prove You’re a Task-Driven Leader

Want to show your manager that you’re detail-oriented and excellent at time management? Project management certifications might be a smart step. These programs are ideal for entry-level employees, new team members handling projects, or those looking to sharpen their organizational skills.

Options include the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) and, with further training, the Project Management Professional (PMP). You’ll need at least a high school diploma or associate degree. To qualify for the CAPM, either 1,500 hours of project experience or 23 hours of project management education are required. The certification exam includes 150 questions and is offered by the Project Management Institute. The fee ranges from $225 to $300. Ask your manager if your company offers reimbursement.

Supply Chain Certification: Get Ahead in Logistics and Operations

Work in shipping, receiving, inventory, or ordering supplies? A supply chain certification signals that you’re serious about understanding logistics challenges and solving them proactively.

Three common certifications are:

  • CPIM (Certified in Production and Inventory Management): Pass two exams in three years. Exams cost $495–$690. Recertification is required every five years.
  • CSCP (Certified Supply Chain Professional): Requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, a prior certification, and three years of business experience. Exam costs $695–$969.
  • CLTD (Certified in Logistics, Transportation and Distribution): Requires similar qualifications and a final exam costing $475–$625. Also requires renewal every five years.

Skilled Trades Certification: Strengthen Your Specialized Skills

Whether you’re a welder, electrician, HVAC technician, or mechanic, certification proves your commitment to the craft. Ask your supervisor or union which credentials they recommend or offer.

In most cases, you’ll need:

  • 3–5 years in an apprenticeship
  • Technical school, trade school, or community college credentials
  • To pass an exam and pay a fee

Some certifications may require ongoing licensing, depending on your location and trade.

Human Resources Certification: Elevate Your HR Career

Working in HR or thinking of switching to the field? A certification shows you’re committed to staying sharp.

Two top choices are:

  • PHR (Professional in Human Resources): Requires 4 years of HR experience, or 2 years with a bachelor’s, or 1 year with a master’s degree.
  • SPHR (Senior Professional in Human Resources): Requires 7 years of experience, or less if you hold a degree.

These distinctions make a resume pop and signal that you’re ready for leadership.

Health Care Certification: Level Up in the Medical Field

Health care employers value certifications that show hands-on expertise. Depending on your path, you could become certified as:

  • A licensed practical nurse (LPN)
  • Dental assistant
  • Surgical technician
  • Paramedic
  • Phlebotomist
  • Medical records specialist

To qualify, register for the program, complete training (online or in-person), pass the exam, and renew your license if required. Many practices will help you cover the cost, so speak with your supervisor about funding options.

At FurstStaffing, not only do we help our client companies find the talented job candidates they need, we help job seekers like you understand all your career options — including which certifications and skills are most in-demand by employers and which ones will help you earn more!
